Two thousand and ten things

January 17, 2010 by: Dim

Hello everyone. Starting a SFB news posts with “apologies for not updating in so long” has become the accepted opener, so I shall avoid it this time. Although we are sorry. Overall Super Flash Bros progress has been slow the last few months, for a number of reasons:

  • I’m in my third year at University, studying animation.
  • I’m working for Armor Games on side projects that perhaps aren’t always classed as “SFB” games
  • Tom has a full time job
  • We’re both a little bit useless

The game next on the radar from myself and my brother is still JAMES THE SUPER ZEBRA. Yes I know it is taking forever, we’re very sorry. We haven’t been able to have half as much time on it as we’d like. We’ve done a massive amount of work for it though, so don’t worry, it will arrive.

I’d also like to mention a game – something close to my heart, and yours – juding by the amount of emails we get. Every week I get emails, some of them genuinely touching, some of them closer to nagging – about Detective Grimoire 2. We will release it, one day. The version in the banner you might have been waiting for has been scrapped and a different game sits all over the pages of a good number of sketchbooks. Its something I’d LOVE to make, and we will. But its a lot of work. Thankyou to every single person who played the first and send us a message about it, we love you all. Grimoire 2 will arrive. The voice actors contacted during the production of the first Grimoire 2 – we’re still hoping you’ll be able to help us out 🙂

BUT. Its not all bad. Although I feel pretty terrible that we haven’t linked to this before, here is a game I released last year:

halloween

play on Newgrounds

play on Armor Games

Its a fun halloween game I produced with the talented Joey Betz, over at our pals Armor Games. Give it a try, EVEN THOUGH its nowhere near halloween.

If you’re interested in some more of my art, I occasionaly upload things to my deviantArt account. It might be worth a chuckle to check that out from time to time.

Here’s an example, a joke slot machine design I did, pretty much just as practice. I’ve recently been trying to find some magical combination of John K and Tove Jannsson. I don’t think it exists, so I should move on without another word.

And here is one of the more successful images I produced early this (academic) year, for a character design project. He’s a misanthropic teenager who believes he’s a caterpillar stuck in a man’s body:

I enjoyed this process so much that I started designing others to live in his house with him. Here’s another one, a fantasy literature enthusiast. Someone who wishes they lived in a Robin Hobb novel.

And one more who has no special relevance whatsoever.

If you’re interested in what I’m doing RIGHT now, here is an image from the latest animatic of my University project, about Thomas Edison.

This animation project goes back several months – here are some other images from it:

Here is an image from an upcoming game – but its a game that doesn’t belong to me so I shan’t go around giving away details. I am doing the art though, and here is some:

Thats all for now, thanks very much!

love the edison flash doodles, you’ve really broadened your drawing style and they look so vintage yet appealing! sad that the previous scenes were scrapped from grimoire, the grainy backgrounds really set the mood.
